Contractor sought for Paisley Museum extension

Plans for the construction of an extension at Paisley Museum are moving ahead, with the news that the council has begun searching for a building contractor.

Renfrewshire Council green lit this project last October and it will see Paisley Museum, which holds Grade A listed status, extended at a cost of £42 million. The building that set to be added to the existing museum has been designed by AL_A, an architecture firm owned by Amanda Levete, who is a past winner of the prestigious Stirling Prize.

The council is now looking for the right building firm to construct this extension, but any company that secures the contract will have to meet conditions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They will need to offer proof that they are in a strong enough position financially to finish the job, regardless of the virus.

According to Building Design, Renfrewshire Council said in its statement:

“The council will require bidders to have a yearly turnover of £42 million and to evidence this level of turnover in the previous three years.”

When organisations such as local councils want to showcase visual representations of projects like this extension, they often turn to places in the same area that provide Graphic Design Services to help create them.

Builders wishing to apply must do so by November 13.
