Building in Paisley to be converted

One of the most iconic buildings in Paisley will be undergoing a radical process of transformation next year, after Renfrewshire Council gave the nod to the Plans.

The JR Group, a building firm based in the town, submitted proposals to convert the building, which used to house the Territorial Army, into an accommodation block for students. The council made the decision to green light these Plans for the building, which is situated in Paisley High Street, when the company confirmed its commitment to preserving the listed structure’s historic frontage.

As well as making substantial changes to the interiors of the existing building, JR Group is also planning to add another two more alongside it and, in total, the project is expected to take between 18 months and two years to complete. Thriving local firms like this often look to places that supply business card printing when they need cards to network with.

Speaking to Renfrewshire 24, JR Group director John Horne said:

“It is a site that many are keen to see redeveloped and brought back to life so we look forward to getting started with works in early 2021.”

This ex-drill hall for the local branch of the Territorial Army dates back to 1896. The architect responsible for designing the building was Thomas Graham Abercrombie, a man from the town who also designed Paisley Grammar School.
