Two youthful Helensburgh dancers have been given the opportunity to represent their country next year, but they will require support from local people to make it happen.
Amy McIlroy and Orlagh O’Donnell are both aged 13 and members of The Dance Academy in Helensburgh. They have been selected for Team Scotland at next year’s ICU World Cheerleader Championships, which is set to take place in Florida. They are keen to grab their chance to represent the nation, but need help raising money for the cost of contest fees, accommodation and travel.
The total expense of the trip is expected to be around £5,000 so the girls are planning a series of activities to help raise the necessary funds. The main one will be a disco for Halloween this month, which will feature a raffle.
When local people are organising fundraising events, they sometimes turn to Helensburgh shops that offer flyer printing. This can help them to spread the word quickly and cost-effectively.
Speaking to the Helensburgh Advertiser, the girls stated that:
“We are training tirelessly every single day to be the best we can be, not just for ourselves, but for our team and our country. Representing Scotland is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and with the help of the community we could make it happen.”
The competition will take place during April 2025.
