The play Sailmaker, presented together with the Beacon Arts Centre, is embarking on a tour of Scotland, and is due to receive a short run of performances in Ayr at the end of March.
It examines themes such as grief, family and masculinity, all set against the backdrop of working class Glasgow. The plot revolves around the changing relationship between Alec and his father Davie as they struggle in the aftermath of losing their mother and wife.
The audience follows their paths as they diverge in the ensuing decade. Alec is academically successful and pursues a life of learning, loosening his ties with his working-class roots, while his father falls victim to grief, apathy and unemployment. Their relationship finds symbolism in the broken model of a yacht that Davie had promised to fix but never did.
Written by Alan Spence and directed in this instance by Liz Carruthers, the play received its first performance in 1982, emerging as a powerful piece that resonated with audiences of all ages.
Tickets range in price from £14.00 to £19.00 and are subject to a transaction fee. Print shops can be of great assistance in the promotion of a play or theatrical production like this one.
