The Royal British Legion (RBL) is encouraging runners of all abilities and ages to take part in the Run2Remember event in Swindon next month.
The race is organised to help the Legion continue with its work and also to honour those that have fallen in service.
The run will be held at Lydiard Park and is in its second year. Organisers of the event hope to attract even more participators in the race and may even rely on the help of Print shops in Swindon.
Both civilians and military personnel will complete the course together on the day to raise money for the Poppy Appeal. According to the direct marketing manager for the Royal British Legion, Leah Harris, the runners raised almost £30,000 in 2012 and organisers are aiming even higher this year.
More than 600 people took part in the last Run2Remember event to show their support.
In addition to honouring those who lost their lives, the event will raise money to help the RBL to continue supporting ex-servicemen and women. A two-minute silence will be held at 11:00am on the day, just before the runners set out on the course.
To encourage more people to join in at the event, the RBL has organised various circuits so that all abilities are able to enjoy the day. Entertainment will be provided when the Jump4Heroes human flight team lands in the arena and the Defence Academy’s Military Wives Choir will be performing two songs for attendees.
