Swindon car park could become leisure hub

Part of a car park in Swindon could be transformed into a hub for leisure use, under new Plans that have been put forward by the council.

Swindon Borough Council is proposing this idea for the Brunel North Car Park. It would involve changing the use of that building’s two upper floors, to make them suitable for a range of leisure pursuits. One of the main parts of the plan is to create pickleball courts by painting them onto the floor of the car park. There would be eight of these created in total, and a barrier would be put up to ensure racquets or balls did not affect traffic or pedestrians below.

When new amenities are first opened in the town, they need to be advertised to residents. Swindon is home to Print shops that can create Promotional Products with an appropriate theme that can be given away.

Alongside the pickleball courts on the top floor of the car park, the proposals would also see the floor below turned into a general activities and community space. This would be for hosting live music, among other events.

The application that has been put forward by the council states that it would make for a valuable addition to the centre of Swindon. Pickleball is a sport that is seeing its popularity rise throughout the country.

No date has been announced for a decision.
