Swindon to get new outdoor gymnasium

Fitness fans in Swindon will have a new way to keep in shape before too long, as Plans for an outdoor gymnasium have been approved by the council.

This gymnasium will be based at a park close to one of the main roads in the town. Plans for it were submitted a few months ago and have now been given the go ahead by Swindon Borough Council. The park that has been chosen for the gymnasium is Ferndale Recreation Ground, which the council currently owns. The maintenance of it is carried out by Central Swindon North Parish Council though.

The completed gymnasium will not be a large facility, as there will be a total of eight pieces of exercise equipment installed. These will cost in the region of £7,000 and will be suitable for light exercise activity.

When new facilities first open in the town, local people need to be made aware that they exist. Promotional flyer printing by Swindon shops can be an effective way of spreading the word.

Among the equipment that will be available are two exercise bikes, a double Squat Push, a double health walker, a waist twister and Tai Chi discs. There will also be equipment for safety purposes, like grass mats.

The gymnasium will not be sealed off from the rest of the park by fences, but left open so it blends in better.
