Potential ambassadors for the town assembled at the National Self Build and Renovation Centre in early April. About 250 local citizens attended the event. Business card printing within Swindon may get a boost if the network gains more members.
A statement by an individual at the meeting was reported by the Swindon Advertiser:
“We are crowd sourcing the promotion of Swindon.”
The campaign will be called Switch on to Swindon and will benefit from the expertise of local estate agent Richard James. His marketing experience has taught him that just being positive about Swindon will not be sufficient for success. He has recommended that ambassadors stress the variety of what the place has to offer.
For example, Swindon is highly accessible. This may be one reason why a cluster of tech firms is located in the town. The workforce has a lot of enthusiasm and the cultural scene has evolved in a positive direction. Furthermore, the business community has the entrepreneurial attitude necessary to upgrade Swindon in the future.
For James, personal stories can help to sell places. This means that ambassadors may have to explain what is special about Swindon in terms of why people enjoy living and working there. In addition, ambassadors of the campaign could mention what draws people to move to the town in the first instance.
