Romfords Sunday market gets green light

A continuation of the Sunday market in Romford has been approved.

Back in the summer, the Sunday market was introduced as a response to the disruption caused by the pandemic. Dagenham’s Sunday market had been closed permanently, so local traders wanted another option.

Councillor Damian White told the Romford Recorder that:

“The introduction of the Romford Sunday Market has been very popular with our residents. We have recorded healthy and positive footfall figures within Romford town centre, providing a much-needed boost to the local economy.”

Statistical evidence has demonstrated that the market has boosted footfall along South Street. On one Sunday in August, the footfall was almost twice than what it was the year before.

Caron Webb is a stallholder who sells childrenswear. She said that the extra day had been handy in terms of income, and pointed out that the market was accessed by different people on the various days. Webb has been running her stall for over two decades, and Nellie Simms, her grandmother, was also involved in the business. Therefore, Romford Market means a great deal to the stallholder.

Flyer printing can be useful for organisers of markets like this to promote event details throughout a community.

Havering Council made the decision to allow Romford’s Sunday Market to continue. The decision was made in the aftermath of a trial period, with the views of residents taken into account.
