Romfords market reopens in phases

The market in Romford was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it was possible to reopen the amenity when appropriate social distancing measures had been introduced.

The phased opening process was approved as best practice by Havering Council. Print shops are useful for enabling clear communication, especially when businesses have to make a transition in terms of their operation.

Damian White is the leader at Havering Council. He is interested in establishing effective working relationships with the market traders via their association. This should allow extra investment to be made and it could facilitate an increase in the number of trading days. White told the Romford Recorder:

“The market place is ideal to shop locally, whilst observing social distancing, outside, and I would encourage everyone to pay them a visit.”

Havering Council cautioned shoppers to adhere to the social distancing rules in the future. The authority stressed the importance of observing the gap of two metres. In relation to the market space, paint has been applied to help individuals to stay separate from one another.

With regard to the parking situation, the availability of spaces is determined by Market Days. These events prevent access and take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. On other days of the week, motorists can find the relevant parking information on the street signs in the vicinity of the market.
