Romford reiki master enjoys virtual success
A local reiki practitioner has spoken of her successful move to an online model under COVID-19.
Romford’s Ros Smith used to deliver hands-on complementary therapy in Saint Francis Hospice, but was obliged to change her techniques due to lockdown and social distancing rules. As a volunteer, Smith participated in a pilot under which she operated from her home. Printing services can be useful in the third sector, especially when significant changes need to be explained to the public.
Smith was uncertain about how effective the new model of working would prove, but her confidence was given a boost from other reiki masters who assured her that distance would not constitute a barrier to success. She told the Romford Recorder:
The experiment showed that volunteering could continue when access to the hospice was restricted for health and safety reasons. This meant that the most vulnerable patients could be protected without stopping all the input from the Complementary Therapy Team.
While Smith has been pleased by the success of her initiative, she is looking forward to connecting with patients in the hospice environment again when this is a practical possibility.

“It sounds very “out there” but the feedback has been phenomenal – really positive! Due to its popularity, this service has recently been extended and my colleague Maureen, another reiki master volunteer from Saint Francis Hospice is now involved.”
