Romford knitters donate hats to Queens Hospital

Knitters based in Romford have recently donated woolly hats to Queen’s Hospital.

Romford’s Mercury Retail Centre provides the Breakfast Club with somewhere to knit. Club members used free wool from the local Wilko to knit hats and baby booties for newborns at Queen’s Hospital. Poster printing can be used to inform the local community of local organisations and their activities.

On April 10th, the Mercury’s help desk ambassador Carol Fletcher assisted by taking the items to the labour ward in the hospital. Fletcher stated:

“The Breakfast Club enjoys making these knitted pieces for Queen’s Hospital and who doesn’t love to knit for babies. Last year we knitted teddies for the Snowdrop Room and Twiddle Muffs for people living with dementia, we can’t wait to knit some more.”

For the handover, Fletcher was joined by Breakfast Club member Linda Allen who had contributed to the knitting drive. Sarah Piller, the manager of the labour ward, also participated in the event. Two parents were particularly pleased to receive a hat for their baby boy. Joe Beecham and Georgia King were thrilled on behalf of young Bobby.

It is hoped that families will gain from a two-stage process. Just before the delivery of their infant, they will obtain a hat. After the birth, the parents will get a special pack. A blanket and booties are going to be put into each container.
