Romford Film Festival to return in 2018
Romford’s film festival shall take place next year and student filmmakers should not be priced out.
The Romford Film Festival is encouraging student participation by not charging Havering students a fee. People who attend local events can use business cards from Romford. The festival is scheduled for May and the fun will begin at a cinema situated within Mercury Mall.
Local filmmaker, Joseph Sultana told the Romford Recorder:
It has also been announced that the next festival will be longer than its predecessor. The event will last for a period of five days. Only independent films will be showcased at the festival.
The idea is that the festival will build to a climax. At the end, an awards ceremony will honour films in a broad range of categories. These categories shall include Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Score and Best Film.
Last year, in excess of 45 films were shown at the festival. Some of the screenings were international premiers, while audiences had the opportunity to listen to the thoughts of the filmmakers. The event took place over three days in October.

“The region really lacked professional recognition of film. Considering it has such a vibrant and exciting film scene, each year almost 20% of UK based independent films come from the region, but festivals are restricted to either central London or the east coast.”
