What's Happening in Romford, Essex, England…

Consultation on Romford autism policy

A consultation on autism units in Romford is underway.

The proposals involve a potential merger of autism units within Romford. The site for the new facility would be located in Hall Mead School on Marlborough Road. Havering Council is also involved in the initiative. Printing services can be useful during consultation processes, as awareness of an issue often needs to be promoted within the community.

The school on the Marlborough Road has already received a positive rating from Ofsted and the hope is that integrating existing services can drive future improvements in performance. The consultation document explained:

“The proposed rationalisation of places at the existing ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) ARP (Additionally Resourced Provision) at Hall Mead will help contribute to meet the future need for ARP places from the growing number of pupils with ASD.”

It is anticipated that there will have to be additional focus on the needs of pupils with ASD in the future. The coordination of services should help to meet the challenges facing the ARP employees. Building work is unlikely to be necessary if the scheme gets the green light.

Although the consultation period is set to close before February comes to an end, the ultimate decision is going to be made by a commissioner for regional schools. This is because Hall Mead School has already attained the status of an academy, connecting it up with the education department.
