Manchester to welcome candlelit Christmas
A festive evening of live music by candlelight is coming to Manchester.
A seasonal concert titled “Viennese Christmas by Candlelight” will see a celebrated music ensemble perform within the Grade I listed walls of Manchester Cathedral, which will be lit by candles. A chamber-based orchestra, London Concertante has been selected to present renditions of Christmas music created by master Viennese composers, including Tchaikovsky and Strauss.
In an evening designed to create festive warmth and offer music enthusiasts an opportunity to hear some of the finest classical pieces ever composed, the entertainment will begin with a performance of Richard Strauss’ rousing “Die Fledermaus Overture”. Synonymous with Christmas, the legendary Russian Composer Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” will follow, before a return to Strauss with the “Tritsch-Tratsch Polka”.
Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Waltz” and the “Hungarian Dance No. 5” from Johannes Brahms will play as the evening continues, followed by Franz Shubert’s “Rondo for Violin and Strings”, and the evening’s finale will be Strauss’ “Blue Danube Waltz”.
Renowned city venues hosting live music events can sometimes use professional print shops to produce programmes, listing the itinerary of the evening for attendees.
Viennese Christmas by Candlelight will take place at Manchester Cathedral on Victoria Street in Greater Manchester on Saturday, December 12 from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. Doors will open at 6.30pm, and tickets are available for the concert from between £19 to £32.
