What's Happening in Manchester, England…

Manchester newspaper celebrates United victory with free poster

A leading regional newspaper in Manchester recently helped locals to celebrate Manchester United's league victory by giving away a free poster.

The Manchester Evening News delighted readers who follow the Red Devils when it gave away a free full colour poster in celebration of the fact that they won their 20th Premier League title. The poster features the various incarnations of the football club through the years and was given away with the April 26 edition of the paper.

Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, spoke about the recent win, saying:

“There's always a danger, when you've won the league, of falling into the trap ‘it's all over and we can relax and enjoy ourselves’, but I think we've got a duty to other clubs who are chasing a Champions League place.”

He continued:

“I'm delighted to be sat here having won the league. I'd take that any time. With the competition you have in the Premier League, you expect it to be tough, and it is tough, but some years we have won it some games before the end of the season.”

Printing companies in Manchester have, for a number of years, provided support to local sports teams by creating souvenir programmes for matches using full colour printing. Manchester United fans often collect memorabilia like this, so there is often a high demand for it. The poster given away in the Manchester Evening News could even become a collectors’ item in itself over time.
