Manchester firms produce unique pie to mark special occasions

A special pie has been made to celebrate a double-whammy of local and national pride for residents of Manchester.

The pastry item was put together to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation anniversary and Manchester Day, both of which fell at the end of May this year.

The pie was made from local ingredients and was the brainchild of Riley's Manchester Sausage and Holland's Pies. The companies worked together to produce the treat and then sent a sample to the Queen herself in search of the royal seal of approval.

The marketing director of Holland's Pies, David Girdle, commented on the creation, saying:

"This new pie brings together two best loved Manchester brands who have been delighting the taste-buds of people in the North West for over 60 years."

The company said that if demand for the new product was significant enough, and if it was given the royal seal of approval, they would be prepared to work with local supermarkets to arrange distribution of it in their stores.

This could be good news for the local economy too, as print companies in Manchester may be called upon to help support a new high-profile product launch in stores by providing services like POS printing.

Manchester pastry lovers can help Holland's Pies and Riley's Manchester Sausage to make their royal pie dream a reality by going to the Facebook pages of the companies and pledging their support. The profiles have already attracted plenty of attention.
