What's Happening in Manchester, England…

Iconic band photos to adorn Lowry Hotel

One of Manchester’s most luxurious hotels has purchased a number of photographs depicting some of the city’s many iconic rock bands, to be displayed there.

A total of 24 photographs – including four prints that measure six feet by four feet – taken by top rock music snapper Kevin Cummins, will assume permanent pride of place throughout the guest areas of the Lowry Hotel.

Several Mancunian groups are among those featured, including: Joy Division at their rehearsal space in Little Peter Street, The Stone Roses during their celebrated Spike Island concert, and The Smiths.

The whole thing came about after the finance director for the Lowry attended a recent exhibition of work by the Manchester-born Cummins that was held in Hastings, and was impressed with his photography.

As with other hotels located there, the freshly refurbished Lowry can rely on brochure printers in the Manchester area to supply glossy material detailing its amenities.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Kevin stated that he was thrilled at having four large prints of his photography in the lobby of such a prestigious hotel, adding:
“For me, it’s great to be seen as part of the furniture in Manchester. They could have gone out and taken some generic images of the city – I’m really pleased they’ve chosen me.”

The Lowry is also hosting an exhibition of Cummins’ rock photography, which will run throughout July and end in early August.
