What's Happening in Manchester, England…

Business networking event for Japanese fans of Manchester United

A business networking dinner was recently held to focus on the commercial opportunities presented by the growing fan base of Manchester United in Japan.

The business event was held by accounting and consultancy firm Deloitte at Media City UK in Salford, near Manchester, and it focused on the fact that Manchester United is capitalising upon the insight that it has 3.7 million fans in Japan. This means it is able to create media partnerships with companies like Toshiba, which can then advertise to the Japanese contingent of Manchester United fans. Deloitte has a global employer services team that is headed up by Jo Ahmed.
Ahmed spoke about how Manchester United leverages its position by networking, saying:

“The club is one of the North West’s most famous exports but in essence it is a very well-run business that has exploited overseas markets to make it into the world’s leading football club. All companies, of whatever size, can learn from Manchester United the importance of building a network of relationships across the globe to open up new markets and grow even in difficult times.”

This showcases the importance of business networking and of having the correct tool to do so, from knowing the objective of a networking session to having professionally presented contact details such as digital business cards created using business card printing.

Manchester United already has six business partners in Japan that it works with to create new streams of revenue for the club.
