Brand new football pitch unveiled in Manchester

A brand new football pitch in the Newton Heath area of Manchester, which cost around £650,000 to construct, has now officially been unveiled to the general public.

The top-notch facility at the Sports Centre in Ten Acres Lane features a full-sized floodlit football pitch covered with synthetic turf for use in all weathers, and has been launched at the same time as Manchester moves into the final stages of its bid to secure the title ‘City of Football’.

A special event themed around the sport was held to open the facility, and it will now be accessible for rent by the public, as well as for use by local football teams, community organisations and schools in the area. Flyer printing provided by Manchester print companies may be called on to promote the facility to potential users.

The Manchester councillor responsible for leisure and culture, Rosa Battle, said:

“The bedrock of our bid to become the City of Football is the aim to get as many people out playing the beautiful game as possible – these new facilities illustrate just how committed we are to that goal.”

The hope is that it will engage women, as well as men, with football. The cost of building it was met by the council and the Football Foundation, with the location being where Manchester United were founded, as well as near to the Etihad Stadium where Manchester City play.
