Bez election bid leads to spoof internet posters

The announcement by Mark ‘Bez’ Berry – the iconic maraca shaker and dancer for Manchester band the Happy Mondays – that he plans to stand for election as an MP for the Salford constituency, has seen mock posters and policy ideas flood social media sites Twitter and Facebook. An advertising company based in the city called One Minute Briefs encouraged its Twitter followers to create spoof posters in less than a minute, leading to a rush of creativity.

One of the most memorable examples features Bez in the House of Commons, with band mate Shaun Ryder by his side, while other Twitter users have speculated amusingly about the policies he might implement. Bez announced his intention to run for election in Salford to the local press, and will be able to make use of printing companies in Manchester to provide him with the genuine posters and flyers needed to support his campaign. He said:
“I’ve been saying we need a revolution and there’s no good shouting about it when you’re not actually doing anything.

“If you want to do something about things you’ve got to get into the corridors of power and take them on.”
Indeed, despite his eccentric reputation and the online jokes, he has already outlined serious policies – including a strong commitment to sustainable living, which has seen him win the backing of the environmental campaigners based in Barton Moss.
