Ariana Grande benefit concert line-up confirmed
It has been announced that the artists joining American singer Ariana Grande on stage for a benefit concert in Manchester this weekend include Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, and Justin Bieber.
A source told the Manchester Evening News that each of the artists due to perform have waived any fees. The concert is scheduled to take place at the Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground on 4th June and will be broadcast live on BBC radio and TV.
Organisers have pledged that all net proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, which incorporates the Manchester Evening News' fundraising appeal. They are hoping to raise £2m or more from the concert.
Live Nation, who are promoting the event, as well as online booking website Ticketmaster have also underwritten their usual costs.
Ian Hopkins, Police Chief Constable for Greater Manchester, said that the families of most of the victims of the Manchester attack supported the concert. He added:
Event organisers did not have much time to promote the event but media coverage is likely to be significant. They will likely be employing promotional items such as poster printing to raise awareness of the event in order to generate as much interest as possible. Concert tickets were sold out within six minutes of release.
