Town criers to compete in Macclesfield

The inaugural Macclesfield contest for town criers is set to take place later this month.

On April 28th, town criers will gather in Macclesfield to display their talents. Macclesfield’s Treacle Market will host the noisy occasion. Poster printing is useful for promoting events of all types.

John Parsons is the local town crier and he told So Cheshire:

“This is a unique event to Macclesfield. As town crier I was privileged to be approached to stage this wonderful, colourful, loud extravaganza on behalf of the mayor and town council.”

Parsons has been in his post since April 2017. He has established himself as a well-known personality through his community involvement. He is clear that the invited town criers have been selected from the best performers in the nation.

A variety of awards will be presented to the town criers. There will be three prizes in the general category, while people will also be able to gain recognition for their clothing or for the content of their communication. The judges are going to make some of their decisions by looking at clarity, volume and confidence.

Open to everyone, the spectacle is going to kick off in mid-morning. It should come to a close early in the afternoon. People may want to be entertained by the dramatic entrance of 11 town criers so they can wait near the yard of St Michael’s Church.
