Macclesfield hopes for new Costa Coffee

Coffee fans in Macclesfield could soon have another place to go for a cup, with the news that Costa Coffee may be opening a further outlet in the town.

Cheshire East Council has received a planning application from property development firm The Emerson Group and Orbit Developments. The application indicates that it is for a new branch of the Costa Coffee chain, with the intention being for it to be a Drive-Thru facility.

If the council approves it, this would be the second such facility to open within the town. Costa launched its first Macclesfield Drive-Thru during 2022, at the Barracks Mill Retail Park. The chosen site for the new one would be Lyme Green Retail Park, which is to the south of the town.

Those are not the only facilities that the coffee chain has within Macclesfield though. It also has a town centre shop and ones within the various Tesco supermarkets.

According to Macclesfield Nub, the application states that this proposed new facility would enhance the area, before adding:

“It would also support and create jobs both through the build and through its occupation and represents economic investment that should be welcomed.”

The opening of new businesses often boosts other local businesses too, such as ones that provide flyer printing or signage, as these are ideal for helping spread the word.

The date for a decision has still to be revealed.
