The tragic play, 'The Ballad of Maria Marten', is due to be performed in Macclesfield at the beginning of September.
It is the summer of 1828 when Maria Marten is pronounced missing, and a search begins to uncover what happened to her.
This play has all the elements of a classic murder mystery with a disappearance, a squire under suspicion and a rural village trapped in the traditions of the past. It is based on a true story, known as the 'Red Barn Murder' that occurred in Suffolk - one that went on to make national headlines at the time.
The victim's account was lost, and Beth Flintoff, in her work based on considerable primary research, re-examines Maria Marten's story. It focuses on the preceding events, vividly bringing the person back to life.
The play was originally commissioned by Eastern Angles, while the text has been published by Nick Hern Books.
Tickets for the performance range in price from £7.00 to £12.00. The contribution of graphic design can be quite significant in the context of the production of a stage or theatrical event.
'The Ballad of Maria Marten' will take place each night from Monday, 8 September to Saturday, 13 September at MADS Little Theatre in Macclesfield. The show on each date will commence at 7:45 pm. Tickets will be available to purchase from Monday, 18 August.Get a Free Quote for Books
