XPO Logistics awarded VWR International contract

Healthcare and pharmaceutical supplier VWR International has handed a contract to XPO Logistics, which will see the latter firm manage product distribution to over 9,000 UK facilities.

XPO will pick up around 2,500 cases on a daily basis from its Lutterworth customer service centre. It delivers dedicated transport, which includes specialist handling for substances that are temperature-sensitive, to laboratories, universities, and hospitals.

There will be six hubs employing 25 trucks to deal with scheduled and next-day deliveries, with further capacity possible via XPO's nightshift deliveries. Personnel will be responsible for managing distribution at the Lutterworth site, which stocks somewhere around the region of 4,000 different product lines.

UK operations director for VWR, Martin Glover, said that the company started the conversation with XPO Logistics due to its knowledge in handling time-sensitive, hazardous goods, as it is a key factor among their customers. Glover added:

“Additionally, XPO’s dedicated fleet and broad capacity give us the resources to flex volumes when we need to. XPO’s safety record and ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality standard accreditations give us confidence that our needs will be met and our growth objectives supported.”

The contract is undoubtedly a coup for XPO but it won't want to rest on its laurels. Other contracts are out there to be won and it wouldn't hurt to further promote the company to better put it in a position to win those contracts, such as utilising services including graphic design and Presentation Folders.
