Net Zero Training Academy to be based in Lutterworth

A new facility to train engineers in the use of green technologies will be opening in Lutterworth later this year, leading to the creation of job opportunities.

This facility is being launched by Centrica and it will serve as an engineer training academy and research laboratory. Centres of this kind are set to be vital for the UK in the coming years, as the country tries to transition to net zero. It will be used to provide the 7,000 engineers who work for Centrica with training in the development of battery and solar storage and heat pumps.

On top of that, the facility will also be home to five laboratories. These will be a Hive Lab, dealing with EV charging and connected-home products; a Controls Lab for products related to commercial industry; a Smart Testing Lab for smart technologies; a Diagnostic & Innovation Lab and a Net Zero Lab.

Centrica chief executive Chris O’Shea said that it would set the standard for training engineers in the new skills that are needed.

The total cost of this facility is expected to be £35 million. It is scheduled to open during the spring of this year.
