Vintage engines and tractors to be auctioned in Lutterworth

Over 200 vintage steam engines and tractors that were built up by a collector who lived in Lutterworth will be put up for auction at a site in the town next month.

Richard Vernon was passionate about collecting these vehicles and amassed hundreds of them during his lifetime. He was also a farmer who owned land in Lutterworth until his death two years ago. Now, this farm will be used as the location for his collection to be auctioned off.

Leading auctioneers Cheffins will be in charge of the proceedings and Vernon’s son, who is also called Richard, told the Harborough Mail that:
“My father learnt to drive a tractor at the age of 12 and his love of tractors and all things vintage continued throughout his life. He was known to have driven one of the tractors all the way from Shropshire to Cotesbach, which is around an 80-mile trip down the A5”

He added that his father’s enthusiasm for this subject meant that a key part of transport history had been preserved.

Brochure printing provided by Lutterworth shops can be useful to the organisers of events such as this auction, where Brochures with colour pictures of the different lots will be needed to attract buyers.

The collection includes rare US and UK vehicles and will be auctioned on June 3.
