The last traditional bank in Lutterworth is scheduled to close its doors for good next month, leaving no such facilities in the town. Nationwide and Lloyds have faced criticism for their decision to shut down their Lutterworth branches, but now the town will be one of 13 that are in that position to get a new hub for shared banking use.
News of it was welcomed by the MP for the area, Alberto Costa, who told the Harborough Mail that:
“It is imperative that my constituents have good, reasonable access to important services such as banking, so this is really positive news for people in South Leicestershire.”
It is not just individuals living there who will welcome the announcement, but also local businesses like graphic design outlets in Lutterworth that also need to be able to carry out banking.
Details about exactly what the hub will be like and how residents of the town will use it once it opens have not yet been revealed, but local people will be hoping that it launches quickly to replace the closed banks.
It will be run by Link, which is the largest interbank network in the country.
