Pub near Lutterworth nominated for national award

A pub close to Lutterworth that enjoys huge popularity among local people is in the running for a top national industry award, with the landlord set to find out soon if it has won.

The Chequers can be found in Swinworth, just a couple of miles outside Lutterworth. It is among the 15 pubs around the UK that have made it to the final stages of the Community Pub Hero Awards. These were created to recognise pubs that do that bit more to support their local communities and The Chequers certainly qualifies.

Over the past few years it has served as the venue for numerous events to raise money for charity, including coffee mornings, quiz evenings, raffles, a barbecue and a dog show. People organising charity events of this sort can also get help from banner printing outlets in Lutterworth when they need to promote them.

Furthermore, the pub has collection tins on its bar that bring in more money for good causes. It has been run by Brian Priest since the 1980s.

Speaking to the Rugby Observer, the co-founder of the awards, Des O’Flanagan said:

“Choosing the finalists from a very strong set of entries was a real challenge and those pubs who have reached the shortlist should be very proud of their achievement.”

The winners are revealed during March.
