Aldi first submitted its plan for Lutterworth during 2019. The idea was that a site adjacent to Rugby Road could accommodate a new supermarket. However, the scheme for the store next to a roundabout needed to be revised. Printing services can be useful for planners and developers, especially when a vision needs to be adjusted.
Input from the Environment Agency has been important for the development of the project. The fields near the Sir Frank Whittle roundabout are on a slope. The concern with the original initiative was that it could have influenced the flood plain of the River Swift.
A fresh approach has been taken by Aldi. Harborough District Council will determine what happens next. A statement from Aldi explained:
“The constraints of this site demand a carefully detailed scheme which respects its sensitive location and provides a quality site frontage, with diverse landscaping to enhance the views into the site and beyond.”
It has been suggested that the new Aldi should extend choice for local consumers. Job creation could be significant, should the green light be given to the altered plan. Aldi has been clear that the store manager would endeavour to be a pleasant neighbour.
Almost 100 local people have formally expressed an opinion in relation to the future of the site. About a quarter of the residents were not keen on the initial plan.
