What's Happening in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, England…

A pyrotechnics expert from Warwickshire was invited to show off his skills at the British Musical Fireworks Championships which took place in Southport last week.

Jonathan Young is known for creating spectacular displays in towns and cities across the UK, including Hinckley, Lutterworth and his hometown of Nuneaton.

Although he didn’t reach first place in the contest, his display was certainly appreciated by the audience. According to Jonathan, pyrotechnics is his main passion in life, meaning he has very little time for any other pursuits.

Sefton Council invited seven businesses to take part, including Jonathan’s, which he has been running since the age of 16. He had hoped that winning the competition would give him the chance to take part in tournaments in China, the Philippines and Canada.

The contest was introduced in 1997 but this was the first time the 30-year-old had been selected to take part. His display lasted 17 minutes, with the order of fireworks choreographed to music.

Jonathan’s business is respected among his hometown community and he is responsible for the area’s fireworks on Bonfire night, in addition to creating a display to accompany the switching on of the Christmas lights each year. Full colour printing in Lutterworth can be used to produce materials promoting the shows.

Jonathan cites his passion and hard work as reasons for the success of his company. He often works from 8:00am until late at night, setting up pyrotechnic displays and cleaning up when the shows are over and people have gone home.
