Lutterworth youngster has local cricket league on the run

A youngster who hails from Lutterworth is proving to be a star for his team within the Everards Leicestershire and Rutland League, claiming a fine run of wickets as a bowler.

Harry Read, 13, took another five wickets in his most recent outing for Lutterworth fourths. This Leicester Community Sports Division 10 East match was against Mahers seconds.

He was Lutterworth’s first change during the match and took the opening batsman from Mahers – before going on to decimate their batting order with another four wickets. With Mahers bowled out for 174, the stage was set for Lutterworth to bat and they went on to score the required amount with six wickets lost.

This was just the latest in a series of fine performances by Read this season, which began with a four-wicket haul for the teenager during the first game and another three in the next one.

The captain of Lutterworth, Mick Atkinson, told the Leicester Mercury that he was feeling confident following this start, adding:

“We have just felt for the past few years we have needed a few more youngsters coming through, so we looked at the under-13s and those who we feel we can get up to at least second team level. Harry is one of them.”
