The Logistics Education Centre is located within the town’s Sir Frank Whittle Studio School, with the likes of Lutterworth’s Mayor, Philip Toye, and Andrew Robathan, its MP, present for the opening ceremony.
Paul Hostead, the head at the school, told the local press:
“Our plan is to create a pioneering, specialist logistics centre which will be a unique feature, not replicated by any other school in the UK.”
He added that this facility would be available for other local schools to use as an educational aid, and that it would provide new opportunities for pupils attending the school.
It is also likely to create openings for businesses in the town, for example printing services in Lutterworth that can be used to promote the centre.
The Edge Innovation and Development Fund, a group that supports educational projects, provided funding, to the tune of £52,787, to enable the centre to be set up. Jane Samuels, its operations manager, stated that it is vital that schools offer education relevant to the jobs market.
