The new centre could be situated on the grounds of the existing centre or possibly on a new site in Airfield Farm. If the latter option is chosen, the existing leisure centre may be sold for housing or industry, according to the Harborough Mail.
Deputy leader for the council, Councillor Phil King, said:
“This is an ambitious project for the council - a once in a generation thing. But there’s still a lot of discussion to be had. Nothing’s ruled in and nothing’s ruled out.”
The council is hopeful that it will have a plan for its chosen leisure centre completed by Spring 2019. By that time, the present 15-year SERCO Leisure contract will be expired. SERCO runs Lutterworth and Market Harborough Leisure Centres for the council.
Plans for a new leisure centre feature a sports hall, a gym, and swimming facilities, confirmed Councillor King. It could potentially result in a 45% income increase. In order to achieve that, the centre would need to ensure that local residents are aware of the new facility through local marketing services and promotional items.
Councillor King also stated that the public, along with any interested bodies, will have an opportunity to give their thoughts on the plans throughout the development process.Get a Free Quote for Plans
