The growth plan argues that thousands of homes should be constructed in the vicinity of Lutterworth by 2051. An extensive consultation was held in relation to the vision, but some local residents were not engaged by the process. Printing services from Lutterworth can be used to enable communication with the public.
The population of Leicestershire is likely to increase substantially for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the birth rate is projected to have an influence. Secondly, people living for a longer time due to scientific progress. Thirdly, immigration is likely to have an impact. Trevor Pendleton, a councillor involved in the planning process, told the Leicester Mercury:
“We’re very pleased to have received more than 550 responses to the consultation, many of them from local residents. Each of the councils has also considered the draft plan and given us their views.”
Councillor Pendleton emphasises that no decisions have been finalised so far. Nonetheless, he stresses that planning ahead is essential. This is because areas for growth must be identified before their incorporation into Local Plans.
Councillor Pendleton is aware that the draft plan has triggered controversy in some quarters. He recognises the importance of ordinary people having some say in planning issues. When the time is right, the Local Plans will be produced accordingly.Get a Free Quote for Plans
