The project is the brainchild of IDI Gazeley, the firm which owns and manages the distribution and logistics park, and would see the construction of a warehouse measuring 100,000 square metres.
The construction would be for DHL, an express mail and distribution company that operates internationally, and would provide a further 1,200 job opportunities for local people.
The warehousing centre is already responsible for 9,300 jobs within the area, accounting for nearly one quarter of all Harborough’s employment.
Furthermore, alongside the jobs that the new warehouse would provide, it will also lead to opportunities for other local firms, like those that supply business Stationery printing.
IDI Gazeley’s planning director, Gwyn Stubbings, told the Harborough Mail that this plan represented real evidence of the confidence large firms have in Lutterworth, as well as the wider district:
“DHL is an internationally renowned blue chip company that already has a significant presence on the park and is a major employer at Magna Park.”
He added that a combination of the resources, infrastructure and location there had convinced the company that Magna Park was the right setting for its expansion Plans.
