Tower block to be built near Aldgate

A brand new tower block is set to be constructed at a site not far from Aldgate following the decision by the council to give the go ahead to the Plans for it.

These Plans are the result of a link-up between the property developer Sellar and the construction company Obayashi. The site that they have selected for the project is 60 Gracechurch Street, within the City of London, and the land is already owned by Obayashi. It bought the site and the property that currently stands on it last year, but is keen to knock that down and replace it with something more ambitious.

It will be working from designs that were created by 3XN, an architectural firm based in Denmark. The project is for a tower block that will be 36 storeys in height and that will house office spaces.

When this block is ready to open for business and companies start to move in, they will find useful services in the local area. These include shops that offer Corporate Gifts for wooing clients.

The chief executive for Sellar, James Sellar, told the Construction Index that:
“We have a shared commitment with Obayashi to develop a distinctively designed new landmark office building within the City’s eastern cluster.”

It is hoped that work on it can start in 2026 and be completed during 2029.
