Museum seeks help with Aldgate move
The people behind a museum that is scheduled to move to a new home near Aldgate in a few years’ time are seeking help in raising the necessary funds for it.
The Migration Museum is currently based within Lewisham Shopping Centre, where it has been since it was started up four years ago. The building is now due to be redeveloped, which will require the museum to move to a new home. A suitable one has been found – in the shape of a tower block close to Aldgate – but it will cost millions of pounds to make this happen.
An estimate of the cost involved is £20 million, which is the sum that the museum is trying to raise. The London Assembly has now asked Sadiq Khan, the city’s mayor, to lend his backing to the cause.
The purpose behind the Migration Museum is to look at how the country has been shaped by inward and outward migration flows. Before it can move into the new building, the space will need to be fitted out, including the addition of digital infrastructure.
Fundraising campaigns of this sort have the option of requesting help from graphic design outlets in Aldgate. They can provide eye-catching posters to boost the appeals.
The location for the museum’s new home is 65 Crutched Friars. It is due to relocate there in 2027.
