Barking and Dagenham Council has made a 43-page supplementary planning document (SPD) available that outlines its vision for Dagenham Heathway. This is among the busiest roads in the town, but the council feels that it is not currently meeting its full potential. It has marked the road out as a site for transformation and now wants to get the thoughts of local people concerning its ideas.
According to the Barking and Dagenham Post, the council issued a statement reading:
“The draft SPD outlines plans to redevelop the existing shopping centre and re-establish Dagenham Heathway as a thriving hub at the heart of the Becontree and Dagenham communities.”

These particular plans could see approximately 1,000 homes constructed at the site. 860 of them would be built as part of a mixed-use development at Heathway Shopping Centre. The other 128 would be constructed alongside Dagenham Heathway Station.
The plans were put together by the regeneration branch of the council, which is called BeFirst. They would involve a range of enhancement measures.
