Rugby club in Coventry adds netball facilities

A rugby club based in Coventry has started work on the addition of two netball courts at its base, with both of these courts set to have floodlighting when completed.

Earlsdon Rugby Club is headquartered in Mitchell Avenue, Coventry. It secured the money necessary to construct these two courts through a combination of crowd-funding and grants. Sport England provided match funding for the former, while the latter amounted to £75,000 from the HS2 Community Environment Fund and £92,149 from the FCC Communications Foundation.

The club treasurer Martin Rourke told the Coventry Observer:

“This is an exciting project for Earlsdon Rugby Club, as we welcome Earlsdon Highway Netball Club into the fold. The development of the new courts will ensure that our netball section have a permanent base here at Earlsdon RFC.”

He added that everyone was delighted to see the work get started, after a lengthy period of planning to reach that stage. Ground works are now being carried out at the site, as the first stage in the construction process.

The use of the ground by the netball club as well as the rugby one means that there could be two teams needing brochure printing outlets in Coventry to supply them with match day programmes.

These new courts will be usable at night, thanks to floodlights. They will be completed by June.
