Record attendance for Coventry car festival

The Coventry Festival of Motoring, which took place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August, drew an audience of approximately 35,000 people – a record turnout for the event on a gloriously sunny bank holiday weekend.

The annual celebration was held at Stoneleigh Park, just outside of Coventry, and organisers from the city’s Transport Museum have said that they are delighted with the turnout, which shows that the popularity of the event continues to grow from strength to strength and moves forward from the 25,000-strong audience from last year.

The event itself saw a good promotional campaign and, as a response from its flyer printing and online campaigns, attracted more than 1,000 historical vehicles to be placed on display, which was complemented by a variety of family-orientated shows.

Amongst the other entertainment on show was a lawn mower racing demonstration and a semi-autonomous flying Hummingbird, as well as a Giant Hexapod Spider. As this was a family-orientated event, there was also a selection of fairground rides, in addition to workshops for children to attend.

However, for many attendees, the highlight of the festival was the main event, the ‘Historic Vehicle Run’, which took place on the Sunday. This saw around 500 motor vehicles driving to Coventry through the Warwickshire countryside via Leamington, Northend and many other locations along the way.
