Complex Development Projects (CDP) own the building and the company’s vision focuses on converting the site into an attractive boutique hotel. Printing services from Coventry may be used by firms within the leisure sector. CDP is not keen on clone towns and aims to promote the distinctiveness of city centres.
Ian Harrabin, a regeneration specialist at CDP, told the Coventry Telegraph:
“The 1950’s rebirth of Coventry is a huge part of the city’s story and could so easily be lost through redevelopment just at the time when post war architecture is becoming appreciated. There is a big focus now on city image and the visitor economy in the lead up to UK City of Culture in 2021 and now is the time to celebrate this important era.”
Historic England, an organisation that champions environmental heritage, has backed the new scheme with enthusiasm. This is because the building had been disused for some time. The fact that the property is a positive example of period architecture contributed to the approval expressed by Veryan Heal, a planning director employed by the public body.
While the hotel is being created, EDG Property is working on a similar building on Corporation Street. The idea is to convert this structure into a residential development with a rooftop terrace.
