The display is a showcase of work by Amber Merricks-Potter, who has been an artist in residence at The Pod studio space in the city for the last six months.
The show is called Pigeons, Weeds and Other Stories and is designed to show beauty in things that are ordinarily thought of as ugly, with inspiration particularly taken from the artist’s time in the Midlands and south Asia.
Amber's residency has been part of a project designed to support people who are working to improve their mental health.
Speaking about the project, Amber said:
“The important thing about the residency was that people could see what a professional artist does. It’s been really well received and it’s the sort of thing that should be copied. This space will now be used for future graduates, and three artists have been selected for the next six months.”
Amber has previously held a residency at a studio in southern India, where she acquired large pieces of flex, a type of plastic often used in banner printing.
Art shows and projects like this are often used as a way to raise awareness of a particular subject or cause and tend to be supported by printed promotional materials, produced using flyer or poster printing in Coventry.
The exhibition will be open at The Pod until August 22, and entry is free.
