Exhibition to showcase medieval Coventry

An exhibition is set to highlight the importance of Coventry in medieval times.

Coventry was a dynamic place in the Middle Ages and a new exhibition, which is free to enter, will display the local relevance of Queen Margaret of Anjou and Queen Isabella. Their story will be told in Drapers’ Hall on a Heritage Open Day. Poster printing from Coventry can be used for a wide range of promotional purposes. The Director of Medieval Coventry, Mark Webb, told the Coventry Telegraph:

“Coventry has a rich and exciting medieval history that deserves to be told and shared more widely. A surprising amount of Coventry’s medieval art and architecture survives and much of it is now being recognised as being amongst the most significant in the country.”

The historic wealth of Coventry was based, in part, on wool production. The conversion of wool into cloth was a significant local process. A large market in cloth was known as the Great Drapery. Drapers’ Hall, constructed during the course of the 1830s, is situated in close proximity to the site of the market.

Drapers’ Hall is going to be upgraded. The Historic Coventry Trust and the Prince’s Foundation have come together on the project. Their Plans for restoration will be made accessible to the public in the ballroom. By 2021, the hall should be reinvented as a cultural venue for the young.
