Developers display vision for building in Coventry

The old Co-op building in the middle of Coventry could be transformed by a plan made by EDG Property.

EDG Property is located in Birmingham and aspires to rent an old Co-op store from the local authority. The lease for the whole development might cost the business just £1 and should last for 250 years. If the Plans get the green light, then brochure printers in Coventry could be in demand.

Councillor Jim O’Boyle told the Coventry Telegraph:

“Corporation Street has felt a bit forgotten recently – but this plan to convert part of the Co-op to apartments and cafes and restaurants will really breathe new life this part of the city centre. It’s an impressive building and I’m delighted with this plan for it.”

Coventry City Council agreed with the local listing of the building in question. Preserving the structure was considered to be a smart move because it had served the city well after the damage done by bombing. The former department store has attracted support because it has remained much the same over time. A peppercorn rent was deemed appropriate because it will facilitate the preservation of the place.

In recent times, a developer approached the council with a proposal to demolish the building. The idea was that the space could then be used for the construction of student accommodation, but this vision was rejected.
