The influential German synth-rock band Tangerine Dream is due to perform at Coventry Cathedral early in June.
From their 1960s beginnings, these widely recognised modern electronic music pioneers lead their audience on a journey through psychedelia, utilising an array of sights and sounds. They have received seven Grammy nominations and are characterised by a heavy use of high-spec modern musical technology.
The band was founded by Edgar Froese in 1967. Other leading members over the years have included Peter Baumann, Klaus Schulze, Christopher Franke and Linda Spa. Today’s line-up now consists of long-term member Thorsten Quaeschning (guitar/ keys/ vocals/drums) Hoshiko Yamane (cello/violins/loops) and Ulrich Schnauss (keys).
It is difficult to pin down the band's individual sound, but they are often seen to have pioneered the German “kosmische music” genre, which could be translated as “space rock”, and talked of in the same breathe as other German electronic acts like Kraftwerk, Can and Neu!
The band's extensive back catalogue incorporates over 200 releases, with titles including "Alpha Centauri", "Tangram". "Phaedra", "Zeit", "White Eagle", a soundtrack for the movie Legend and "The Knights of Asheville".
Tickets range in price from £30.25 to £36.85, which includes a booking fee. Poster printing is both a popular and effective method of publicising local musical events.
Tangerine Dream's gig will take place between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm on Thursday, June 10 at the Cathedral, Coventry.
