Christmas cards hit the shops early

A retailer has already started the countdown to Christmas by putting its festive cards on sale before the end of the summer.

Big-name brands such as Clintons have already decided that it is the right time for them to start selling Christmas cards and build up to the winter holiday four months early. This comes at a time where the weather has gone from a summer heat wave to the stormy remains of Hurricane Bertha.

Stores in Solihull and Coventry are amongst those stocking these items, and are complementing these sales by offering wrapping paper, tree decorations and other merchandise to their customers. It is believed that it won’t be long before other retailers and Print shops follow suit.

The card retailer chain in Solihull’s Touchwood shopping centre has revealed that it has seen a noticeable rise in revenue from the festive products. Latoya Woodburn, the assistant store manager, pointed out that customers have been spending up to £100 per week in the last fortnight, since the store put up an eight-foot display at the start of August.

Despite the fact that some of the store’s customers have stated that it is ‘too early’ for the shop to be setting up this display, turnover figures may suggest otherwise – meaning that shoppers are divided on their festive opinions.
