Cathedral Lanes to become restaurant quarter
Cathedral Lanes, a shopping centre in Coventry, has been bought for around £5.5 million and it will be altered into a quarter for eating and drinking.
A London-based property company, Shearer Property Group (SPG), has purchased the centre. The idea is that SPG will have restaurants and bars ready for action by December 2015. The company has suggested that several restaurant chains have expressed interest in the initiative already.
The shopping centre is approximately 65,000 square feet in size. SPG may well use printing services within Coventry to help create enthusiasm for the opening of the restaurant quarter when the time comes.
Some of the existing structure faces south, and it is thought that some of the facilities will involve eating outside. There are concrete plans for the use of balconies to provide diners with a view.
Only a few tenants currently occupy Cathedral Lanes. The local authority will work with SPG to give the new scheme a chance of succeeding. The leader of the local authority, Councillor Ann Lucas, has given her personal backing to the proposals. In addition, she has said that the plan will be pivotal in terms of the overall regeneration of the city.

“We have known the city - and Cathedral Lanes - for many years and when I came to look at it again earlier in the year, I was amazed at the improvements made in the city centre.”
