The Utopia Strong, supported by Gunther Prague, will hold a gig in Coventry towards the end of February.
This semi-modular group perform consists of Michael J. York, Kavus Torabi and Steve Davis, who blend synthesisers with more conventional instruments producing a leftfield style of psychedelia.
York, a multi-instrumentalist and serious luthier player, works mainly with modular/analogue synths but also woodwind instruments (in particular reeds, bagpipes and flutes). Meanwhile, Kavus Torabi has a track record as an innovative psychedelic musician and was previously with the Cardiacs.
Most interestingly, Steve Davis is perhaps better known as the six times World Professional Snooker Champion in the 1980s. He now gathers leftfield global music and presents a monthly radio spot with Kavus. A devotion to modular synth was the root of his work in The Utopia Strong.
The support act is Gunther Prague, who have drawn comparisons to the Minuteman, Shellac and the Cardiacs. Their 2017 album, recorded in Chicago with producer Steve Albini of Big Black and the Jesus Lizard, was released on Creature Lab, their very own label.
Tickets cost £10 pre-booked and £12 on the night. Flyer printing is a popular and effective way of promoting a music event in a local community.
The Utopia Strong gig will take place between 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm on February 10, 2021 at the Tin At The Coal Vaults, Coventry.
